CUMULUS — About the Founder

Danny Brown

Harm reduction advocate, certified sober coach & founder of CUMULUS

Danny Brown is a harm reduction advocate, certified sober coach, and person in long-term recovery. His own journey through addiction — spanning years of substance use, multiple attempts at sobriety, and the hard-won clarity that followed — gave him a firsthand understanding of how complex and non-linear recovery truly is. That lived experience became the foundation for everything he does at CUMULUS.

For five years, Danny fought a brutal, consuming battle with methamphetamine addiction — a period marked by countless relapses, physical deterioration, and challenges that reshape a person entirely. Rather than viewing each relapse as a failure, he came to understand them as data points: information about triggers, environments, and the underlying emotional patterns driving his dependency. That reframing — painful as it was — became one of the most important tools in his eventual path to lasting sobriety.

In 2025, Danny released his memoir, Meth Becomes Her — a raw, unflinching account of his five years in active addiction. The book doubles as a practical resource, featuring a 14-day detox guide designed to help people navigate the critical first two weeks of withdrawal privately, on their own terms, without requiring in-patient rehabilitation. It was written for the person who isn't ready — or able — to walk into a clinic, giving even the most severe cases a structured, human-centered framework to begin recovery from wherever they are.

In 2026, Danny launched CUMULUS — an online harm reduction and recovery support platform offering sober coaching, structured guidance, and community for people navigating substance use at any stage. His approach is rooted in harm reduction principles: reducing risk, building awareness, and supporting autonomy. He believes that shame is one of the most powerful barriers to recovery, and that dismantling it — through education, honest conversation, and genuine human connection — is as important as any clinical intervention.

Danny works directly with clients navigating every stage of recovery, helping addicts rebuild their sense of self, reclaim their worth, and ultimately use their voices to challenge and eliminate the stigma and shame surrounding addiction. He brings a rare combination of lived experience and structured methodology to every session — not as someone who has all the answers, but as someone who has sat in the same darkness and found a way through.

Beyond his coaching practice, Danny advocates publicly for policy reform around drug use and addiction treatment — pushing to shift cultural narratives away from moral judgment and toward compassion and evidence-based care. Based in Chicago, he remains active in local harm reduction efforts, peer support networks, and community education. His belief is simple: recovery is possible for anyone, at any stage, from wherever they are right now.
